Surf Wear

Surf wear can refer either to what you wear while riding the surfboard, or the style of clothing proliferated by brands such as Rip Curl and Quicksilver which is described as surfer clothing. To get started surfing, though, you really aren’t required to have more than board shorts or a bathing suit—though a wetsuit is advantageous in many ways because it will keep you warm and aerodynamic.

However, beyond the swimsuits and wet suits, surf wear is meant to be comfortable. Brands like those listed above now make more money by selling items such as T-shirts and hats than selling swim wear. Surf wear is a very popular style choice, especially among young people.  

If you plan to immerse yourself in the surfing lifestyle, it might not be a bad idea to check out some of these clothing options. However, remember that technically you don’t need much beyond a swimming suit of some kind to go surfing.  If you are just getting started, don’t feel as though you need to invest hundreds of dollars into swim wear before you even know if you like surfing. Once you decide it’s something you want to commit to, you can consult your local surf shop to find the best surf wear options for your climate and purposes.
