Wetsuits
Wetsuits are designed to keep the surfer warm and to dry quickly. They are able to work because of the materials of which they are made as well as their overall design. The primary material used to manufacture wetsuits is neoprene, which is basically a rubber-like material that allows water into the material, and then forms a barrier against the temperature of the water surrounding the wearer.
This barrier is then heated up by the wearer’s body temperature, which is why if you do invest in a wetsuit it is important that you find one that fits well. Otherwise it is possible for water to fit between the suit and the skin. In other words, it’s best to find a suit that fits you pretty tightly, but remains comfortable.
It’s easy to see how this technology could come in handy as a surfer. Some of the best surfing days will be days of light wind, and that can cut to the bone if you are wearing just a regular swimming suit. Wetsuits are also designed to fit well so that you don’t have to worry about losing any clothing if you happen to wipe out.
